Initial Backstory

"At 13 weeks pregnant we found out that our daughter was diagnosed with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. This is our 7th daughter, we are a blended family. Once we got the diagnosis we talked with doctors at our local hospital, and found out that they only do 2-3 cases a year. At that point we realized I would need to relocate to get our daughter Colette better care. We settled on me relocating alone at 32 weeks to St. Pete Florida to see Dr. Kays. My husband and 6 other daughters had to stay in Hawaii due to work and school schedules. Dr Kays has been fantastic, even though our daughter has been diagnosed with a severe LCDH, he is very optimistic that she will be able to come home. This grant is such a blessing, as we are financially supporting two households at this point. One in Florida, and one in Hawaii. The funds will also be used so that my husband can hopefully make it for our daughters birth, and after her surgery."

Update 6/2/2026

"We have made it to 35 weeks! Hoping for another 3 weeks of growth so that Letty has a chance to gain some much needed weight and that her chances of ECMO lessens!"

Update 7/1/2026

"Colette was born May 27th 2026. Her surgery was more extensive than we thought it would be but Dr. Kays at Johns Hopkins all children’s Hospital managed to repair her left side CDH. She managed to avoid being put on ECMO even though she had a 50% chance. Since then she’s done amazingly and is off of CPAP and on low flow oxygen and working on her feeding."
